Gulliver studied music at Oxford University with Edward Higginbottom and Michael Burden, completing a doctorate on Richard Wagner at St. Peter’s College with philosopher Sir Roger Scruton.
He was appointed Director of Music at Oxford’s University Church and tutored on 19th and 20th-century music history, before moving to become Director of Music at the University of Roehampton in London. He has lectured at the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly for their exhibitions on Degas, Manet, and Zoffany, and for the Oxford Lieder Festival on Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder.

He has been Artistic Director of the Brinkburn Festival, an advisor for GFEST (London’s cross-arts festival celebrating LGBQI culture), and given workshops for children through Zimbabwe’s Academy of Music in Bulawayo.
He is a trustee of the charity Glen Art, which runs the Bravehound Project which helps those from the military return to civilian life, and provides companion dogs to those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
